How to get a breast pump through insurance

There is so much to figure out when you’re expecting but the good news is that, thanks to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), you can get a free breast pump through insurance, as well as extra breast pump parts and supplies. And the best part is, a DME (Durable Medical Equipment) supplier can make it easy by doing the legwork for you. Our breast pump guide will walk you through the process.

How do I get a breast pump through insurance?

  1. Call your health insurance company directly to get specific details about your coverage. They can explain the process and coverage to which you are entitled.
  2. Check your eligibility directly with a DME by filling out your health insurance information on their website. They will check your insurance coverage and get a prescription and/or pre-authorization from your doctor if needed.

How do I know which breast pumps are covered by my insurance?

Once you’ve selected the best breast pump for you, the DME provider will deliver it right to you.

Can I get a Philips Avent breast pump through a DME provider?

Our preferred DME partners can help you find out if you’re eligible for a free, hospital-strength Philips Avent breast pump. You may qualify for the Philips Avent corded double electric breast pump, or the rechargeable battery version, which gives you more flexibility on the go.
